Coaching is a courageous journey for both coach and client, one predicated upon listening. In this session, you will explore the “next best coaching move” while focusing on ICF Core Competency 6: “Listens Actively.” Listening actively leads coaches to make moves that generate awareness, facilitate growth, and support a client’s goal attainment (Coleman 2022).
By attending this session, you will observe coach educators facilitating an authentic learning experience using an instructional technique that centers listening actively while honoring the adult learners. The “next best coaching move” integrates the ICF Core Values of professionalism, collaboration, humanity and equity, and the principles of adult learning. This type of authentic practice is most effective in spaces where those Core Values are lived. Safe coaching spaces become brave ones through courageous practice.
The journey toward being a coach begins with coaching education, and we coach like we practice. Though the “next best coaching move” can be used with any of the ICF Core Competencies, “Listens Actively” is the skill most frequently used in coaching and life, and it is the least taught. While listening is individual, processing our listening collaboratively enhances the learning experience. Join us and see!
