The learning cycle is one of the tools designed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group to improve general facilitation skills. It is a component of the training life cycle that is based on industry standard methodology for providing high-quality training services.
The learning cycle is a four-step process for teaching or conveying information to participants and focuses on addressing participants' learning needs. The learning cycle helps address the four types of learners identified by learning theorists Peter Honey and Alan Mumford.
This session will explore the first phase of the learning cycle, GLOSS, and help you discover how to motivate your participants to learn. With GLOSS, you can get participants’ attention, help them understand why they need to listen to the information being conveyed and prepare them for what they are about to hear.
From this session, you will gain a tool that will benefit you in every session, module, course, or other education or training offering. You will also learn evidence indicators that reflect a trainer's ability to perform certain key competencies.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the session, you will be able to:
1. Identify the elements of the learning cycle.
2. Explain the meaning of the GLOSS components.
3. Understand how to evaluate a facilitator’s application of GLOSS using the evidence indicators.
